The kids have had a great time with it.....now they all want it :roll: Maybe they can talk their folks into bidding to win. You're right Barry.....that is kinda....well...Blue. (they picked the color too!) I did leave the masking tape on the rubrails. I hope they left it there. I'll take a picture of the finished project at the auction Saturday. Everyone keep their fingers crossed for me that it does well for the fundraiser......Hmmm, that could be pretty embarassing if it doesn't do so well. :oops: Nah.....it was a fun project and all about the kids. Well I know Oyster is gone for a few days but I figured I'd update anyway so he can see what happened while he was away. The last picture before turning the 3rd graders loose: And here's a new twist on the roll & tip method of finishing...Aargh!...I can't look!

But think of all that showing off you get to do in one spot. Its a mighty poor dog that won't wag his own tail! 8)

almost done with the nutshell dinghy..... some fairing left to do and I'll spray primer this weekend and paint the inside. Monday it goes to the 3rd graders to paint the hull .....then they'll have had a hand in the project for the charity auction on April 1st. One of the cheap canoes is going to the auction too.......I'll try to get a picture after they.....(gasp....sob) paint it.

I guess I'm the lurker you were talking about. Anyway, here is the update. Finished these last week. One is for my nine year old daughter, the other was confiscated by my wife to be donated to a charity auction: Started today on a nutshell dinghy also for the charity auction....(the 3rd graders wanted something for their class to paint and decorate for the event....yeah....I'm a sucker) :roll: The plans called for the transom and frames to be be made from 3/8" exterior ply. I didn't like the quality of the 3/8 stuff immediately available (don't have much time to look....auction is April 1 and have to have it to the kids a week ahead of that). I thought I'd try glueing up the frames with epoxy using CCA treated pine fence boards: Think that'll work ? :?: Next one I build I get to keep for a while :wink: Larry

I've been watching with anticipation as well. It's certainly going to be the topic of conversation at the ramp

I have been admiring the pictures the sockeye on the Devlin site (as well as all the other boats there) for years. When I look at other designs to build I always go back there to compare. I hope you remember to keep us updated as the build progresses. That boat is breathtaking..... maybe I'll win the lottery or something....

I thought it was just me that couldn't find him. I had been searching for an update on his "popsicle" boat as well. I had been following it with fascination and admiration. When I used "Thin Air" Designs, it never quite looked that good.

Hi everyone, I think I might be missing something here. Why are the terms "stitch and glue" and "sandwich construction" exclusive of each other? It would seem to me that if the plywood panels are stitched together with wire to temporarily hold them while they are filleted (glued) that pretty much seems like "stitch and glue". If those same panels are glassed on the inside and outside then the plywood would seem to me to be sandwiched between the layers of glass. Larry
