  1. Ron: thanks for your post. Was beginning to worry about you! As usual your work looks great. Interesting helmsman's chair:)
  2. Hope things are well. Looking forward too seeing more of your fine work. Looking forward to spring. Alan
  3. Ronny: thanks for the reply. Understood!
  4. Ronny: we miss you we need a construction photo fix. Hopefully you are two busy working on the boat or making money to spend on boat supplies
  5. Great to see your latest photos! Thanks
  6. Ron: I much appreciate the photos of your transom work. I think the extra stiffening will give you a lot of peace of mind. I believe I will do something very similar. The transom opening for the motor on my 15 ft runabout appears to be a lot wider than the one I've seen on previous OB 20 photos. Even with the wider width I found it a little difficult to get the motor steering cable rigged. So I plan to give the width for the OB 20 a lot of thought before I would cut it out. No sure if the motor manufacturer gives any width data. Height, I know they provide. I know you have been quite busy, so thanks again for the photos. Go luck as you continue. Alan
  7. Ron: thanks for the update. I think there are quite a few of us that are enjoying your posts. I have the same problem, work has a way of getting in the way of the important stuff. Alan
  8. Ron: Just curious, were you able to find any photos that show your transom construction and fastening to the boat? Looking forward to seeing your work continue to progress. thanks alan
  9. Miyot: thanks for the thoughts. Obviously, it makes a lot of sense to contact Graham. Hope your project is moving along. Alan
  10. Ron: I appreciate the information. I have really been wondering about the whole transom issue. My OB 20 plans call for three layers of 4mm ply or a total of only about a half inch. This seems strange to me since the plans for the 15 ft runabout I built called for two layers of 3/4" or a total on 1 1/2". It also called for a pretty sturdy strongback and a hefty L shaped piece (can't remember the correct name for this) connecting the transom to the keel. This plus the fact that today's 4-stroke outboards are pretty heavy. Of course, since I still refer to myself as a neophyte boat builder, I feel awkward in questioning the OB 20 design. So, I figure I must be missing something! Alan
  11. Ronny: Do you have any photos showing how you attached the transom or perhaps a description of what you did? thanks Alan
  12. Miyot: thanks for taking the time with my question. Yes, it helps a lot. One related question, On the 15 ft. runabout that I built, the plans called for a 2x6 strongback attached to the transom at the below the motor well. Since even small hp motors are pretty heavy these days, I think this would be a good idea for the OB 20. Do you have any thoughts on this? Your boat is looking great and I have learned a lot by following your posts. Thanks again. Alan
  13. I can't quite tell from the photos. Can you describe or add additional photos has to how you attached the transom. I am starting an Outer Banks 20 and I am already wondering how to attach the transom. I am planning to bend Two layers of the transom on a jig and then add the final outer layer of the transom after the first two pre-bent transom pieces are fastened to the boat frame. But how to fasten the transom to the frame? Thanks Alan
  14. Ronny: thanks, I appreciate your comments, but curiosity was getting the best of me. What's the saying? Curiosity killed the cat!
  15. Glad to see the turnover, that is a big deal point of any boat project. I have two questions, both of which are just idle curiosity which perhaps you can indulge. I couldn't quite tell how you turned over the boat using your overhead lift. Perhaps, I am just dense! The second question is also just curiosity, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out what products your factory turns out. In one picture it looked like a really unusual ping pong table. At any rate keep up the great work and the photos. I just ordered the plans last week and can't wait to get going. alan
