I like the darker color for the hull because it sets off the wood frame inside the boat. I wonder if you use a black stain for the coaming instead of paint if it would'nt accentuate the flaws as bad?

Jeff, I would like to know what type of deck line fasteners you used on the green and white Long Shot? Also I was wondering if you are offering a frame kit for the Cast away/Mess About kayaks yet?

The beads or rollers are to slide the blade of your Greenland paddle under without having to lift a bungee cord. The coaming is made of strips of red cedar laminated around a plywood form. The skin is of dacron polyester and painted with good old Rustoleum. I saw the idea for the skid protection on the keel on line somewhere. It has already come in handy. I've had the kayak out twice now and have been very impressed with how she handles in the wind. I was a little skeptical of using Rustoleum, but I've seen that it is very durable. I think it becomes more durable the longer it cures. I'm not that handy with computers but as soon as I figure out how to post more pics, I'll do so!

Hobartian, I recently was given a 12 ft boat, approx. 3 1/2 ft. at the beam skin on frame boat. It has been sitting in an old warehouse for about 60 years. The boat originally had a steering wheel and cable steering system with a small outboard. By looking at the boat, I would say that it probably could not have handled any thing over a 3hp motor. The transom is constructed of 3/4" marine ply. The stringers are made of approx. 5/8 by 5/8" redwood. The chines and gunwales are approx. 1 1/2"x 5/8" redwood. The frames are constructed of aluminum. The canvas is almost totally deteriorated. I would love to know who manufactured the original boat or kit. I have decided to totally restore the boat. It will be a head turner just because I've never seen anything like it around the midwest where I live. But at least you know someone has constructed something similar to what you are looking for.

yggmeanhorse, I used a plastic kitchen cutting board, cut it into about %/8" strips, drilled holes and countersunk the screw heads, and they wok out great for rub strips on the keel forward and aft.

Just recently finished and launched this new Vardo. I'm pleased with the project . Learned alot. Will begin building a Chuckanut 15 footer soon. Tried to attach pics. No luck please advise.
