Konrad, The Kamloops went down in 1927 just off the north coast of Isle Royale in Lake Superior. There are a lot of sunken ships around Isle Royale and it is a popular place for diving if are qualified to dive in very cold water. Some of the wrecks are in shallow water (America went down in 1928 in shallow water). I've been kayaking there a couple of times. It's a great place to go if you ever get the chance. Ed

I am getting ready to repack the trailer bearings. I have never done this before. I have downloaded some information from the internet on doing this. Does anyone have any words of wisdom on repacking bearings? What type of solvent do I use to clean the bearings? Thanks, Ed

Mike and Gaylen, I made the hoops from ACX plywood that was leftover from the boat bottom. I rounded over the edges and haven't had any splintering. The hoops are 5" internal diameter with 1/2" width.

I cut my mast hoops out of 1/2" plywood and then stained and varnished them. They are very strong and show no wear after almost 1 season. [attachment over 4 years old deleted by admin]

I sailed again on Thursday. Backing up the trailer went much better this time. As Bill suggested, I think I was over correcting. I found that by backing up slowly and making small corrections, I was able to back up in a fairly straight line. I am sailing at Eagle Creek resoivour which is only a few miles from my house. I put up the jib sail this time out and found that I didn't have to mess with it much. My hat blew off and went in the lake and I was able to turn around and pick it up as I came by. That gave me some confidence in handling the boat.

Thanks for all your nice comments. Yes, I was sailing alone. Fortunately at this time of year there were few other boats and the ramps were not crowded. Usually during week days there are only a few fisherman on the lake and a few sailboats. Motors are restricted to less then 10 hp on this lake which makes it nice for sailing.

I launched my PC for the first time today. This was the first time I towed a trailer or sailed, so I was a little nervous. However, everything went pretty well. The hardest part was backing up the trailer. It took me several trys to back up for the launch. I guess it will get easier with more experience. The boat sailed beautifully as far as I could tell. It tacked easily and went wherever I wanted it to go. I sailed with only the mainsail up. I didn't want to use the jib until I get more experience (I had enough to worry about without using two sails). I plan to go out again later this week. [attachment over 4 years old deleted by admin]
