I used a balanced lug rig on my Goat Island Skiff made from poly tarp. Worked great but I did end up with a couple of lessons learned. I started out with a blue tarp like the one in your picture and the wind quickly shreaded it. The other problem was the double face tape I used didn' t adhere for long. When I remade the sail I used the heavier white tarp and after I finished the edges I got a friend with a heavy duity sewing machine to stitch all around the sail through the double face tape. It lasted until I sold the boat, about a year without any problems. I found with money short poly tarp wasn't a bad choise. W

Thanks for the idea. I think I will hold her in place with tiedowns until the weight builds up. W

I got my BSR 15 #145 turned over and placed on the strongback. I leveled the hull side to side and have the bow the recommended six and three quarters higher than the transom where the sides attached. I plan to raise the strongback on to blocks to prevent movement but my question, is it recommended to now attach the hull itself to the strongback or just let the weight of the hull hold it in place? W

Just joined up and thought I would do a short intro. Name's Walt, I am from Shelton WA. USA. That's South Puget Sound area, good sailing waters. My current project is a BRS15 #145 mostly because thats about the limit in my garage. Previous builds included a 16' Kittiwake by Jacques Chavallard, (first boat and not a big success) a Goat Island Skiff by Michael Storer, and a V bottom 10 from Bateau. So far I have the BSR15's hull assembled and awaiting fiberglassing. I know I am going to do the bottom for sure with additional tape on the chines but I am not sure about doing the sides as well. Weight. I used Hydrotec plywood so I am thinking maybe three coats of epoxy on the sides plus paint should do. Boats under a bunch of junk right now, painting the house. Plan to post some pics when I start up on the boat again. W
