It would work ok. the wax in the sinew may cause problems. I used fly line backing. i found that after the skin was all shrunk good that taking a heat gun and runnin down the seam really tightened it up and i think look better. If this was done on sinew the wax would melt and run. i even had to be carefull when ironing over the lashings and the wax would melt out into the fabric.

OK there may be hope. Sharpened the plane and got the paddle blocked out pretty good. it is a little smaller than intended but not bad. went from 4" wide to 3 1/2". Sorry the pics are so small. Cheap phone camera is all i have.

Making a greenland paddle is proving to be a lot hader than making the boat! Bandsaws reduce lumber to a mess very rapidly.

It Took about 1 1/2 quarts to finish my boat.

Thanks for the comments. It is 8 oz polyester skin. I adden the stain to the zar before applying. Thinned the first coat then 2 more coats full strength. The thinning probably was not needed but it did soak in the fabric good. 27lb rigged and ready for the water. I am 245lb and it floated me with plenty of freeboard.

We built the frame in his shop only so I could give him instruction. lol

Just completed the vardo. Took it for a short paddle in my pond. Tracks great, very stable, turns like a battleship, but hey it aint a white water boat. I am well pleased with it.

Do you see any problem with cutting lightening holes in the bow and stern boards on the vardo? I noticed them on other designs and seemed like a good idea.
