What part of Colorado?

I am in Aurora, suburb of Denver. I generally sail on Aurora Reservoir.

Kinda laid up with a herniated disc but if some people get together may be able to come by ...

My in-laws are in Elizabeth (have another house off smokey hill in Aurora), my parents live in Keenesburg. We are staying at inlaws house.. Don't know anything about sailing conditions, winds or best places to go. Terry your welcome to go with us. I want to get the boat in a couple of times.. All I need to do is upgrade my rudder for an uphaul, and a strip of kevlar. I sand blasted the epoxy and paint off it this weekend accidently through some shallow water. The kevlar and graphite epoxy held up fine on everything else.

As you are probably aware, there aren’t any large bodies of water close to Denver.

If you want quiet (no gasoline motors) and not crowded I suggest Aurora reservoir. It is probably the closest. I have not been out this year so I don’t know the water level. A daily pass is $10 plus a one time boat fee I think is $10. This time of the year is usually cal but conditions can change rapidly. Current weather:

Noisy, crowded, Cherry Creek or Chatfield. Chatfield is larger. I have not been there. Daily parks charge at each of these.

If you want a larger lake with more sailboats, Dillon Reservoir. The Dillon water level is down but the marina ramp is open and good. We drove up there last Saturday foe lunch and to see a Scamp and first launch of a Sage 17. Wind was good. Afternoon rain is common. Ramp open 8:30 to 5:30.

There is Pueblo Reservoir as well which is larger but I have not been there.

We were in CO earlier this summer. Driving along Blue Mesa lake in SW CO had me longing for my boat. Picture flat water, strong breezes, and fantastic scenery, perfect CS-17 conditions! Problem is that's a loooong way from the Denver area.

Blue Mesa Reservoir is near my near my father in law's cabin above Ludlow, sight of the Ludlow Massacre and now ghost town.

NO gasoline motors. Makes it great for sailing. I can lend you paddles or oars. Perhaps a grandchild to row .. but that would probably be more trouble that worth.

I want to give a shout out to Terry for loaning me some paddles the other day on Cherry Creek. After hearing Terry's story about capsizing a few years ago, Jenn went and looked up photos of it at the 9news website and my boating experiences will never be the same (on the bright side I get to buy more expensive life jackets).

My 6 & 8yr old where able to move boat at 2.4 knots with paddles, so different from being on a tidal river. Never had any great wind, to no wind at all, but it made nice conditions to practice rigging staysail.
