Vardo Kayak

Jeff, I emailed you last year sometime about which kayak would be a good fit for me... You told me the Vardo would work for the weight limits as far a displacement would go. 350 lbs max. Will my work shop is just about finished and I have come up with two questions...

1. What size of window would it take to allow the Kayak slip out of the basement... ? Need to know before I start building... Kind the round peg Square hole thing.... LOL!

2. What would it take to make the Vardo have a 400 lb displacement and still preform as it does now?

I have had a couple of people build in a basement and bring them out through the window. Per the plans you should be able to get it out a 24" x 15" space. BUT I know from experience the wood doesn't care what the plans show and the boat will be somewhat different than this. I would want at least 26 x 17. and that could be tight at 17". Pretty confident on the 26" but don't hold me to this! I sold my VARDO so I can't measure it.

2. What would it take to make the Vardo have a 400 lb displacement and still preform as it does now?

Basically a new design. At 400 lbs the waterline would be almost to gunwale. It would be drawing 6" of water. That it just well over it's limits and I can not recommend it being loaded that high. 350 is pushing it to it's max and I don't know how well it would paddle at that load. If you really need 400 lbs you looking a different design and I don't have anything with that much capacity.
