gaffers Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Greetings all, As you will be able to tell from my spelling I am Brit but I am very into boat-building. I completed my first earlier this year, an 11ft gaff rigged dinghy with electrical power. It was an experience battling with the cold wet winters and moving regularly due to my job (driving 400+ miles with a half finished boat on your roof is a sure way to get attention! lol) I am currently in South England so if anyone here is in the area be sure to drop me a line. I visit the US regularly as the wife is American. In fact I am spending Thanksgiving in Wisconsin this year. I am already looking to my next project and I am very interested in the Vacationer. The wife is keen to learn sailing but is not as mad as I am. I take my dinghy far out into the English Channel with a fishing line dragging off the back. She wont go that far in something so small. So I am looking at something bigger for us to use along the south coast, capable of crossing the channel without difficulty and can sleep 2 aboard. The vacationer certainly fits the criteria and from what I read on the website she seems a good boat to sail too. I have also been looking at the Penguin by John Welsford but I think in terms of cost and build time the Vacationer has the edge... ttfn Gaffers Quote
