Converting a Canoe for Sail

Frank suggested y'all might be interested in converting canoes to sail. We have a lot of articles that deal with just that and I'd like to share part of one here.

The basic canoe, or kayak for that matter, needs only an effectively mounted mast and a leeboard to make it a sailor. Many of us began with only a sail and a board and steered with a paddle; more intrepid--and skilled--sailors have learned to steer by trimming their sail. That being said, my fist canoe under sail didn't have a leeboard at all...enough boat was immersed to give adequate LR, and if memory serves, it was pretty much a following wind....here's the article that talks about it...(sorry Frank, this one seems a better start than the other....) Come to think about it...my mast mount was my tent mate! (Who may never have gotten back in a canoe again....)
