Probably the best you could do for a car topper is a sunfish-like boat. But they don't have much freeboard and they do tip over. The crew is limited to two and probably not any heavy crew. I would not venture out on such a boat, I'm way too old and way too fat. They do sail well and are used for training classes all over the country. Also too heavy to cartop--a major consideration. Ray, I guess my main issue is the trade-off between load-carrying and sailing performance. How much of a performance penalty will I pay if I go with a sprit-rigged Two-Paw? I expect to sail the boat on the bay as well as smaller water, most often with two pre-teen boys as crew. I don't want to be limited by need for trailer and paved ramps. It will be a sailing, or ocassionally rowing, boat rather than a tender. It may well be that the rig is a bigger potential limitation than the hull form. The issues of hull stiffness and cockpit layout didn't even occur to me, but I know I will often be putting her on top of the minivan single-handed, and would not want to do this in one 85lb piece.
