Weekender Main Mast

Was looking at the plans yesterday and was thinking about starting on the mast. The mast is listed as 15'-1" with the taper starting up at 30". The mast is to be cut at 47" for the tabernacle.

Is this correct, that the tabernacle happens in the tapered part of the mast?

I started the taper 30" above the cut for the tabernacle. That way the mast base section is consistent in dimensions to fit the mast box better.

In hindsight I would have started the taper much higher than that. I would have kept the mast pretty constantly the same dimension until I neared the top. I would also have made it more rounded with a transition from square to round occuring at about the 30" mark above the cut.

I would also have kept the top of the mast 2" round so that I could add a mast collar instead of drilling holes thru the mast for attaching all the rigging. Little more expense for the collar, but a lot less stress on the mast.

Is the mast overall height of 15'-1" from the bottom of the tabernacle or from the top? I think it is from the bottom.

I'll start my taper about a foot or so above the tabernacle.
