Dick White Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Early in December I asked a question about cutting out my transom for my weekender. The plan call for cutting the top and bottom edges at 90 degrees. It seems to me that it would be better to cut at approximately the same angle as that which is formed by the keel and the stern post. Am I wrong? Why? Any help would be appreciated because I'm too chicken and cheap to go on, with the possibility of wasting my plywood. Quote
Dave R1 Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Dick, it wouldn't really be wrong to cut the angle as you say. The angle between transom and deck is different though and would be hard to figure at this point. The transom as drawn in the plans is actually taller than needed and the stringer that supports the deck will be placed a few inches lower than the top edge. I found that cutting the transom a bit oversized was actually good. I didn't trim it down until the deck was in place so it formed a lip to hold the aft end of the deck in place while I was gluing and screwing it to the boat. As far as the 90 Quote
