Will Geiger
Hello everyone. I have been lurking on this forum and others for some time and hoping to throw some ideas by this knowledgeable group. I've been interested in the Tolman Widebody and Jumbo for a while but the Bluejackets recently caught my eye and I am very taken by the hull design, especially the low-speed planing characteristics, the bow-down trim, and the beauty of her lines. I understand that the Bluejacket 27 was designed to create more space on the back deck for fishing, but I think for my specific purposes I would need yet more room. I'm wondering if anyone has insights or real-world examples of Bluejackets being modified to increase available area on the back deck? I've wondered about the main cabin being generally shifted forward, sacrificing some space in the v birth, as well as extending the aft portion of the hull. But I'm no architect. I live in Southeast Alaska and do a lot fishing for salmon, halibut, crab, shrimp, and sablefish. At times we will have a few hundred pounds of gear on the deck, such as anchors, stacks of pots, and tubs with hundreds of fathoms of leaded groundline. We haul the gear using an electric or hydraulic power hauler mounted an aluminum davit next to the rail on the starboard side just aft of the cabin. In this vein, I've also wondered if a Bluejacket could accommodate a spacious under-deck fish hold? Much love to you all and thanks in advance to anyone who considers these thoughts. .
