Wanted: a salty little sail boat plan

Well the boat bug has bitten hard around here since we launched The Flyer. We had intended to use this winter to finish paint and trim on The Flyer, but now there is clamoring for two other boats.

If you read the Amphora post, you'll know what one of the new boats will be. The problem is that the other crew member wants her own little sail boat.

So I need to find a set of plans for a salty looking little sail boat.

It should be STABLE (my little girl will be in it), it must be cute, it probably needs to be eight to ten feet long.

I've been scanning the web but haven't hit on one that strikes me.

Any contenders out there?

Gee, it would be so much easier and quicker to just build two of the same type. You could paint them and finish them completely differently to make sure there was no confusion. It wouldn't be as fun though I suppose.

The Sand Dollar does look like a contender. Has any one built one?

The other thought is The New Yankee Workshop sail boat. I know many people have the plans and video, but any one out there have fist hand experience? Or maybe know of a forum?

You can contact the Center for Wooden Boat in Seattle, they have classes on building the stitch and glue boat that was featured on New Yankee Workshop. There are several of them on display and on the water there for the public to use.

They also have the plans and video for sale.

I have several friends that have built them and they love them. Very good design and quite stable.
