I have to tell you about my latest, stupid, moment. I rigged my mast, spars and sail two days ago. I fastened the mast and spars to the fence post. Dropped the spar to tye on the sail, (gunter rig,) found that it pulled really well, both before and into wind. So well in fact that I have to put a new boundary fence post in. It took off after a while! Now yet another question to anyone out there. On the mast of my gunter there was an iron loop, with hook, which hooked into a loop on the spar, which in turn tightened the spar to the mast. I have decided that because my sailing will be done with, two arms and four paws, that I want to run everything aft for ease of use. If I run the halyard through the block to the spar and hoist spar and sail together. Fasten to a cleat aft, it would be easier. It would also simplify putting in a reef. What am I missing?

I'm here, I've been doing boat work. What? I've just cut out a new rudder and I am fairing it. I am also starting to laminate some 9' oars. I'm building them from 4 x 0,5ins ash boards. I'm threatening to use West System for the laminates but I am a bit worried that the flexibilty may be impaired, so I am open to other suggestions. I've just discovered how to put emoticons on so beware. This is for Jo and Nan.

Thanks for the welcome folks. I'm not really sure that I am a refugee though. I'd rather say that I have relocated so that I can regain a little more of my hobby, peace and quiet. Mike, That's there we're here. No need to discuss the other place mate.

Hello Folks. I'll introduce myself. My name is as posted, I live on the small island of Bressay in Shetland. I am the proud owner of a clinker built Shetland model which hasn't seen water for a minimum of 18yrs. I am reconverting it to sail. It will be sliding Gunter rig the spars are around 80yrs old. My own spars are 66yrs old. I like humour and I initiate a lot of this humour myself, because I do quite a lot of stupid things. I have a wonderful ex-working border collie named Sox and in keeping with my weird life she is epileptic. Her hobbies are chasing every animal that eats. She works on the assumption that all food belongs to her. I am open to all views and I am truthful. I can take criticism. Rex.
