  1. Hey Oyster! Just thought I'd drop in and see how yer doin! Is that Popsicle? lookin good!
  2. Thanks for the replies guys. It's going to be a solid spar. This is my first mast project so I'm a little intimidated by the birdsmouth type. It seems like an awful lot of trouble. I think I'll use epoxy on this rather than the PL.
  3. I've got most of my mast lumber scarfed into twenty foot sections for my Windsprint. They will later be cut to sixteen feet after lamination. Should the lumber be coated with CPES or anything before I glue it up? Is it imperative that I use epoxy in the process or can I use PL Premium? I used PL Premium in the scarfs. What about staggering the scarfs? I'm a little bit befuddled on that principle. Thanks in advance for any replies.
  4. I'm a little late coming in on this but very nice Oyster. I admire the deckwork. I hope she does you good.
  5. Thanks for the help Oyster. I never knew about the trick with the PVC. When I get ready to do it, I'll post a thread. I probably won't do this until Spring but we'll see.
  6. Hey Oyster. Just nosing around a bit. No, no new project yet. I've still got to build the mast for the Windsprint. I wish someone was here to help with that. I'm afraid I'm going to mess up $!20.00 worth of lumber. Merry Christmas to you and Linda and family.
  7. I feel for ya Oyster! We have had about four inches if ice on the ground since last Weds. It's just now starting to melt a bit.
  8. Great Job Jake! That boat is too pretty to put in the water.
  9. Welcome. What kind wood are you building it out of?
  10. Hey Rex. Check out the oar building here. http://www.instantboats.com/
  11. Kevin, check my post entitled "Hey Frank."
  12. What kind of motor is it Red?
  13. I wonder what happened to Rex. I thought he was coming over too. :?: Good for you to see me Kevin. Oh, and you don't have to keep telling us it's you Kevin. Everybody knows there's only ONE Mr. Know It All. Barry, I tried what you said and it came out brown so it's not clear coat. Thanks for the informative reply!
  14. Thanks for the replies folks. I'll try the Mcguires. Ed, I fish on a small lake called Lakeview that would be nice to sail on. It's right off of R61 on the way to Tunica. A lot of people sail at Arkabutla Lake also. Also Pickwick. Check with these people. They are going to teach me to sail when the Windsprint is done. http://www.tornadoalleysailingclub.org/
  15. I recieved this email from a friend who is trying to join. Can anything be done? "Mike.........That MAIWB forum takes my webtv unit at least 10 minutes to load. It also won't let me join. It rejects my e-mail address as invalid and forces me to post as a guest. Any suggestions?"
  16. I thought you were comin aboard dude. Where are you?
  17. Oyster, why are you moving and to where? My best to you and your son.
  18. Thanks for the replies. The paint isn't really dull, it's just a non-metal flake finish. I've never seen this type of finish on anything but a Mercedes. Hey Ed, I see you are in Memphis too. What kind of boat do you have? I've built a Bolger Diablo and I'm working on a Windsprint.
  19. Hey Mike! You're not the outlaw from West Virginia are ya? I knew a Pennington there once. He went to Alaska, or so they say.
  20. Looking for some opinions here. I recently purchased a Mercedes 85 300 diesel. It's a great car with the exception of one thing. The paint. It has a dull flat finish and I'm sure it's original but the thing scratches very easily. SWMBO sat a box on it the other day and just the box sitting on it scratched it. {or so she claims}. Anyone have any suggestions as to a buffing compound or wax that may get rid of these superficial scratches in the paint? Sorry not boat related. That will come later.
  21. Hey, I got promoted. I'm no longer a Landlubber! I much prefer the title of Seaman Recruit.
  22. Hey Jake. It's a fine lookin boat! I saw pics of it at that other place. You must be very proud!
