Here is my first build, a Harley 8 designed by Kristofer J. "Harley" Harlson. Her name is the S/V Wawona and she's set to launch this Sunday.
I know many are not fans of the one sheet boat but for a first build, this is a great choice. To the best of my knowledge this is only the third one built! Harley built one, Andrew Linn built one, and me. I've scoured the internet but have found no further builds mentioned. A few things about the design and construction. The plans, which are free, are very detailed. A novice like myself with no prior experience can understand and follow them. It's full of illustrations and included a basic primer on sailing as well. This is a very, very simple stitch and glue boat. I've done some over complicating of the build because I can, but the basic build could be done over two weekends if not quicker. It does not carry the box boat stigma of a PDR, but I understand it is nowhere NEAR as fast. But for a simple boat on an lake or pond this seems to fit the bill. If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them. You can learn more about the build at Wawona's Page, http://inlandpacket.yolasite.com/asv.php. We'll see after Sunday if she does what she's designed to do.
