Tomorrow we start the last of two days for Swimmer expeditions for the year because of high expectations of ice. Also because of the freezing weather I may not last long boating in the cold weather. Also I found cracks in Swimmer's hull, so we will probably spend the winter fixing her. Monday I will try to post with what happened and weather The Recovery race is over in Alaska.

The Flyer (Brown with white port hole rings) was launched August 2003. It was still lacking paint and trim at launching but still a 2003 model.

The biggest problem is finding a big enough pot of chocolate. :shock:

The dock comes out after the 20th of this month (the end of hunting season.) We left The Flyer on her trailer, under cover at the lake. With any luck we'll be able to sneak in one more sailing weekend before giving up to winter. Hopefully we won't have to fit an ice breaking bow on her for the last hara. :wink:

I must agree, I waste way too much time working and stuff when we could be doing important things like boating. I must learn to prioritize! Until then I'll at least try to get the rest of the film developed so Alexander can do a few posts that he has be eager to do.

The videos Doreen took are great, you can hear the wind, there is laughter and the banter between boats, she really caught the mood of the day.

I can attest to Mike's added speed. When that big blue sail filled, his boat just seamed to switch gears and head for the horizon!

John, Your clips inspired us to watch the video from our camera today. Some good shots of all involved. I'll pass on a copy to you and Mike, and Jeromy if he'll get me his adress. It'll be old fashion VHS - I know how to do that. Unfortunately neither me nor my computer has the capability to post videos to share with the forum. Next outing we'll all have to swap cameras so we get more footage of our own boats!

As the number of threads grow it is indeed more difficult to find an idea or past post lost in a thread, but the somewhat unfocussed nature of the forum is I think it's strong point. Someone elses ideas or questions or links to discovered sites help expand many of our horizons. Remember many of us have never built or owned a wood boat of any kind before. The exposure to the varied topics also are a real reason to keep active on the forum. After we're on the water and sailing the need to have construction and rigging questions answered mostly goes away. Adventures, other boat building ideas, sailing lessons, a common hobby; that's what keeps me coming back. I also think there's the risk of dilution. In any group there is a percentage of active members, spreading that too thin may weaken the whole thing. I say it doesn't seam to be broke; keep it as is for now.
