I grew up in Kansas outside of KC.  As a kid I sailed my Dad's 10' sailboat every chance I could at the lake.  Life happened and when I was about 35 I met a man who cruised to the Bahamas every year and that sounded like the best thing I could imagine.  My wife and I took a charter in the BVI with a captain and other couples for a week and after that I was hooked.  My work has kept me very busy since moving to NC in 2015, but in July of 2020 I purchased a 16' Tanzer (with the help of Chick Ludwig) to start working on my sailing skills again.  My goal is to own a cruising boat before I am too old to sail it.  I am joining the forum because I want to build a canoe with my grandson and a small sailing dinghy that will potentially be used as a tender for my eventual cruising boat.
