  1. I Asked my granddaughter if she would like to do the artwork on my kayak. She kept it a surprise, didn't let me see it till it was done. I told her to do she wanted to. I think she knocked it out of the park.
  2. I had 1 1/2 quarts of Rust oleum on my Vardo.
  3. andy00, I found a cedar board that was almost completely knot free. It was a 2X6X20. Expensive, but a nice piece of wood. I made the laminated beam as in the plans, but if I were to do it again I would reshape the beam. Make it more flat on the top so that you could lash the top side stringers to the bottom of it. if you look at my pictures above, you can see that they kind of poke out just in front of the coaming. With the beam that I made, I just could not get it to look right. other than that, it is all stock per say. I do have some pretty nice tools so nothing was difficult to make. I used the new 6oz polyester that Jeff sells. At first, I just couldn't see how this stiff fabric was going to work without wrinkles. But as I went along it was all working out just fine. Pretty happy with my first attempt. I have other plastic kayaks and paddles. I can't bring myself to paddle it with a store bought paddle. I have other obligations right now, but will build a paddle as soon as I can. After that I will post some pictures of it on the water. Thank you for the comments all. And thank you Jeff for the help, plans, and supplies. As I said, "This will not be the last!"
  4. What a great project. It won't be the last. I plan to build 2 Tadpoles for the grandkids and a Curlew for my wife.
  5. Here is my Vardo. It's a great project. Thanks Jeff for all the help.
  6. I am having a great time building. I will soon be covering it with the Premium 6oz Polyester. Watching Jeff's video, he says that it doesn't stretch. Wanting to know the best sequence to sew it up. Such as, start at the cockpit and work out to the tips. Then install the coaming. Or the tips first, coaming last. I realize that I will probably need to split the fabric at the tips. What would be the best way to tackle this? Thanks for any help. It has been raining a lot, but when I can I will take a FROG photo and post it. John Kunz (Kunzie)
