  1. We just commissioned a new Core Sound 17 and are offering it up for sale (need to purchase a diesel for the big boat.) Photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/connors/sets/72157622392428035/show/. Includes trailer (good, but used) and staysail (not yet rigged). This is a standard build with Okuome ply. Scuppered lazarette hatches. Bottom and blades are coated with VC Epoxy (very hard). Topsides are Perfection. Interior and deck are System Three LPU. 6 oz. glass on the hull. Aluminum mast also VC Epoxy coated. Harken running gear. The boat is in Boulder, Colorado and I would deliver within a days drive of the region. $10,500. Thanks! 3. It is hard to see in the photos perhaps, but the finish does have some orange peel, so its not perfect, and if you know where to look you can just make out a slight wave at the scarfs. What I do is pretty much right off the can. I don't do any long board work, just a slight amount of fairing along the chines where I double the glass. Other than that its 4 coats of epoxy w/ 6 oz. glass, a month of sailing while it really cures under tarps in the sun (helps reduce the print through w/ dark colors), orbital sand w/ 120, a couple of coats of System Three primer, another sand with 120, three coats of Perfection (all well within the recoat windows), a week to fully cure, sand out orange peel with 400, final color coat. I do spray, but only because I have the breathing equipment and its fast. I'm sure you can produce essentially the same finish roll and tip w/ Perfection. No booth, just a detached garage that I can spray down prior to painting. Interior is System Three LPU, but I really struggle to get the hang of spraying it. Part of the difficulty is the dry air here. Soaking the garage to raise the humidity seems to help, but it still eludes me. The deck is 3 coats of epoxy and six coats of the System Three clear LPU. For some reason, I can spray the clear OK. Nice thing is you can do all 6 coats in 2 easy days of work. The clear is a semi-gloss finish, but it is easier on my eyes than high gloss. Stuff is tough as nails after a few weeks to fully cure: much harder than varnish. Bottom, center board, and rudder is another tough as nails finish: VC Performance Epoxy. VC is great for surfaces that will be scraped against beaches, trailers, and the like. Its also rated for continuous immersion. I spray it and you can do about 3 coats a day, which is the min recommended thickness. I'm thinking this one would be difficult to roll and tip because it has effectively no flow out: probably one coat sanded off for every two coats rolled on.
  4. Just needs a little hardware - yahoo! (I'd tell you the hull number 'cept my wife threw all the drawings, etc. into the recycling bin while I was out cruising. I wonder what that means?) http://www.flickr.com/photos/connors/3982097778/#in/set-72157622392428035/
  5. Seems obligatory that even a lurker must post the final result: This will be a work boat for us, a tender to Norska our J/40, just as soon as I can figure out how to ship it East for ldss than $500. Cheers!
