I'm 6' with a size 14. My kayak is a Messaround. Sitting bowlegged with the balls of my sandals on the footrests, my heels ride just off the floor skin and the toes don't touch. I find it's best if you ride with your foot parallel with the chine wall. If I build another, I'll add a plywood heel pad to keep from rubbing the bottom skin.

The spray booth build time is probably correct. I tend to spray everything I can, including dyes. Lazy, I guess. Yeah, I finally got to page 18 in the posts for the oil discussion vs. varnish. I should spend more time online and less in the shop. Sorry for wasting your time with the stupid questions. I'll start with the typical furniture 3:2 tung oil and make decisions later on spar varnish. I've used compatible finishes over oil, so there's no hurry to spray. These are fresh water boats, so storage heat drying out the oils is my only issue. Thanks. We'll get the mandatory frog pics if it ever stops raining and dries out.

This is my first kayak and my first soft craft. Started with a MessAbout 'cause my knees like large cockpits. Love the lashings. Building a spray booth large enough to HVLP spray the skin without changing my truck's color. I'm worried about the oil finish on the frame in the hot garage storage. (As if the kids and grandkids will leave it in storage!) What problems exist in using several coats of Spar Varnish on the frame instead of oil? Weight? Lashings?

You're probably right, but like LeRoy Gibbs of NCIS, this is not my first boat-in-a-basement. It is, however, a different basement. Some other boat design firms do provide the window/door size with their plans on small craft. I have only had issues when I modified the plans. Heh. Looks like I wing it.

A little late 'cause the plans are on order, but I need the shoe size allowed for the MessArounds. Many of the kayaks we've been in don't fit our size 14's. Secondly, what is the "window size" for basement boat removal. If this info is included in the plans, I apologize and will wait.
