This is not really an epoxy question, but something else I have been pondering. How do you figure out the waterline and the maximum hp engine that can be used? is there a (simple) formula for any of the two?

wow! there is alot more to take in than I thought. One thing I am unsure of (actually there are many), do I understand that you can cover the exterior of a small craft with fiberglass cloth, and still get a nice paint job? I suppose that would seal well, but wouldnt it leave a rough "clothish" look on the outside?

I live in southern pennsylvania, and am hoping to buy all my supplies from Lowes or home depot. As I stated before, I like the convenience of running out to a local store to restock whatever I need. I am planning to start with a plywood boat. I have decided to give bc yellow pine plywood a try, but think I probably need a real good sealer to be safe. In your opinion, i take it, polyester resin is a bad sealer and i should use linseed oil?

I was hoping to use a polyuerothane varnish instead of paint. Have'nt checked it out closely, but I dont think that alone will seal my boat. Any suggestions for a good sealer I can probably find locally, or am I pretty much at the mercy of online ordering.

Hello, I am new to the world of boat building. In fact, I am so new that I have not built a boat yet. I am currently purchasing the items I will need to start, and have hit a wall. I have been researching boat building for a while now and everyone apparently seals their boats with epoxy resin. I cannot find epoxy anywhere in my area and am not excited about ordering online because I like to be able to slip out and pick up whatever I run out of. I have come across some "waterproof fiberglass resin" made by bondo. Will this work the same as epoxy? will my boat be sealed? Thank you
