  1. No, I'm not the same guy. I live in Prince George and have built 3 weekenders, featured at http://www.stevproj.com/MNorel.html The one I'm taking to California is the open deck version which I built in fiberglass. At one point my enthusiasm overwhelmed my rationality and I thought perhaps there could be a market so I had a mold built from the hull of my second boat. It still sits in my backyard, unused, if anyone is interested. Thanks for your help in this matter. I contacted Canada Customs today and they faxed me a form which I will take down to them tomorrow, with the hope that I can get something that looks like documentation. I actually never considered that they might be sticky at the border.
  2. I am towing a homebuilt weekender sailboat from British Columbia to a buyer in California. It's never been registered in Canada since it has been sailed on inland lakes and there's no legal requirement to register here. DMV in California, however, says that out-of-State vehicles and boats need to have a title or registration from the other State before they can be registered in CA. Does anyone have experience with registering home-built crafts in California, and if so, what is the process? I'm hoping I don't need to go through a bunch of red tape to get it registered in Canada first. Perhaps we can say it was home built in California. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Thanks, Phil. That's the arrangement I had come up with as well. However, what is the purpose of the adjustable clamp?
  4. By running the line thru a pulley mounted on the tiller, back to another pulley mounted on the block, the line has to travel twice the distance to move the rudder the same amount as the Stevenson's setup. Has anyone tried it without the extra pulley? Seems to me that there are times you want to be able to change directions quickly ...that's where a tiller is so effective. Another question - has anyone come up with a better idea than the lagscrew for attaching the steering shaft?
  5. That looks like the one, Mike. I seem to recall that there was a turnbuckle involved. Thanks a lot.
  6. I do. In fact I still have all 3, but my wife says I need to sell a couple. Along with a Westsail 32 that's sitting neglected in dry storage at San Carlos, she thinks that 4 sailboats is 2 or 3 too many. I, of course, disagree ...you can never have too many sailboats. Is there a page where I can see photos of your completed project?
  7. I'm getting Miss Norel ready for sale and want to convert her back to wheel steering, having modified to tiller steering after capsizing her on our second outing. I seem to recall someone posting a modification to the steering linkage a few years ago. His fix removed the slack that makes the wheel steering somewhat sloppy. Does anyone recall this or have a link to his website?
