I just got my copy of paysons "new instant boats". Great drawings and info there . I used his book to make a 1/12 scale model of my light schooner. This seems to be being a big help in knowing how the full sized boat will work , it also lets me explore working options from my den/shop rather than spend money on full size components . . The only drawback to the scale model is my son keeps bringing it to the bathtub. Here will be my question of the day. I will be using my boat in protected fresh water . How does one determine the size of line to use ? Anchor , sheets , halyard , etc . .... more questions coming soon..

Thanks for the great help here , I do view the links and Paysons book is on its way now . I also ordered " the gaff rig handbook " but this one is by John Leather , did I get the wrong book ?abe.com is a great source for books . As much as I would love the hands on help , hold off on the road trip as will be living in or near Bend OR. by the end of winter. For the suggestion of sailing a smaller boat first , would sailing this one with just one mast work or would that be like wanting less power from your 8 cylinder so unplug 4 sparkplug wires ? ( I had a friend try that ). Would posting in the main forum get me more views or would I appear redundant ( annoying ) ? More questions coming ...

I just came into possesion of a 26 ft sharpie (measured to the tip of the 18 inch bowprite). This is my first contact with sailing ever . She came on a trailer and with 2 masts one measuring 14ft 6in above deck and the forward mast measuring a foot shorter neither one having a track. Also came with 3 booms . One being 160 inches , yolk type , the next being about 90 inches , yolk type and the smallest being about 60 inches , no yolk or goose neck . There is no hardware at all and no wear at all on the hull so I am led to believe this is sombodys not quite complete project. I bought "the sharpie book " upon reccommendation but it had no info on setting up sails . Is there a source of info out there that might tell me how to finish this project ,select sail style , attach sails to the mast & boom etc ? Even a collection of pictures that show some details would be helpfull. Thanks for any help ....Wilson [/i][/b]
