Do you tie the lower plywood ring to the deck beams ? or , Does it just rest on the deck beams and keep it in place with the skin tension ? do you pull the plywood ring sides down to give the coaming some curvature ? THANKS IN ADVANCE

You may be right .Feathercraft kayaks has been using HDPE frames for years , but they sell folding kayaks , so if a frame gets bend , you can take it off , warm it and shape it back The material is cross-linked polyethylene and specific density is around .95 . about the same as ebony but plywood is around .6 - it would add a couple of pounds to the kayak . plywood frames may be a better choice . frames don`t touch the skin so trapped water is not a big concern (stringers do trap water ) . http://feathercraft.com/frame/

i am just exploring the idea aluminum tubes are 20 feet long ;you don't have to join them (NO SCARFING ) they are not very expensive - around 10 $ a piece weight is similar to wood they won´t split over time they bend very even aluminum does not rotten and you can use High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) frames and have a rotten proof fuselage http://yostwerks.com/HDPE0.html you drill the frames to receive the stringers = easier to build and more precise you don't have to finish ( sand and varnish) the stringers I agree : WOOD IS BEAUTIFUL

Jeff and forum members : Already bought a Firefly plan , but i am guessing i will rather buy a kit .( after tools :the price is about the same , and marine plywood is hard to find around ) If i order a Firefly KIT . How long does it take to ship ? also . has any of your boats been made using aluminum stringers ?( 3/4 round ) ( http://www.yostwerks.com/BIF16LashA.jpg ) .
