  1. Just returned from a vacation at the Outer Banks and spent 4 hours of paddling in the Birder 2 in the sound. She seems to handle very well, but I have to admit, that I've only been kayaking once before I built the Birder, so I'm not the best judge. But, it does seem to move right along, it is stable, and easy to handle. I recommend the Happy Bottom Seats and the Rapid Pulse backrest from CLC, they were very comfortable. Gary
  2. Begun last summer, and finally finished this week. My first boat is done and ready for the water. Thanks to those on the forum who have answered my questions over this past year. Gary [attachment over 4 years old deleted by admin]
  3. Ken, Thanks for the site and suggestions. There's a number of things there that will help me finish this project. Gary
  4. I'm finally ready to put the finishing touches on my Birder 2, which I began and nearly completed last summer. I have a question about foot rests. A number of my friends with plastic kayaks indicate that foot rests are a necessity. However, the Birder 2 design doesn't mention them. I'm curious what other kayak builders have done for including foot rests, or if they have foregone them.
  5. I'm putting the final barrier coats of epoxy on my Birder 2 kayak and have two questions some of the experiened folks might know. I'm using West Epoxy (105) with the 207 Hardener for the barrier coats. How long do I have to wait before I can paint the hull? What paint would be recommended for someone without a spray setup? Thanks, Gary
  6. Apparently a stray "period" got inserted at the end of the link previous posting. Try this, http://homepage.mac.com/gagabriele/PhotoAlbum13.html
  7. I started on building a Birder 2 about 3 weeks ago and I thought I'd document my progress. Photos can be found at http://homepage.mac.com/gagabriele/PhotoAlbum13.html. I should be filleting and taping seams this weekend.
  8. I'm in the process of building a Birder 2 and was wondering what others might done for the seats and footrests.
