  1. Here are a couple of interior shots and one at South Padre. David
  2. Sorry, I can't figure out how. ( Can you help?
  3. I had the joy of building a Princess 22 this past year and have been sailing it for the past six months. I thought I would give a little input as to what I have discovered. The Princess 22 is a subperb design. I have found her to be extremely stable and great under sail. I have sailed her in winds gusting as high has 40 MPH. The Princess is not designed for such winds but it is great to know she will take care of you if you get caught. I have been in winds in the thirties on three occassions and have found her capable of climbing to wind under reefed main only. The Princess has a balanced helm that will alow her to sail herself. I can set sail and leave the helm for extended periods of time even in heavy winds. I have never had a boat capable of this. The fact that her motor sits in a well keeps the prop in the water even in rough conditions. Last night I had breaking waves four feet high and my prop never spun out. The only weakness I have found is her slow tacking through the wind. The hull design and the keelsome slows her considerably through the wind but once around she accelerates great. Downwind she extremely fast. Pull up the centerboard and sail by the lee and she soars. I have hit 10 mph surfing down some waves in Espiritu Santos Bay. Graham has done an incredible job designing this boat. If you are looking for a buildable boat that will flat sail, take good care of you, has lots and lots of storage, is extremely stable, in the 22 foot range, the Princess 22 is your boat. Maybe one day I'll go for the 26. David
  4. Can anyone direct me to other Princess 22 builder sites and or pictures. I would love to take a look at some of Charlie Jones pictures of Pilgrim. I have not been able to find them on the forum yet. David
  5. I plan to tarp at this point and see how that goes. I have been searching for temporay tarp shelters but haven't found one long enough without being too wide. I also would not want to go higher than eight feet to keep from offending the neighbors. I live in a subdivision and it is going to be interesting getting a two thousand pound boat out of the backyard through the narrow side yards but what is life without a challenge. I'll post pictures when I go 3-D. It will be a while. So far I have built the tiller and waiting till I return from Colorado to start the rudder and centerboard. Here is the tiller. Ash with walnut accents. Waiting to stain and finish till I get the rudder and housing finished. David
  6. That's what I was thinking. I will go with fir. Cypress is light and free but brittle. My cypress is all Bald Cypress. I will put in my order for fir tomorrow. Thanks for the input. David
  7. Thankd for the input. I am down in San Antonio.
  8. Just got my plans and ready to build. I've removed a stump and a tree to prepare my location. It's going to be interesting getting her out after. I will have to take out one more tree and my side fence. I'll worry about that in about two years. ) I'm about to construct my rudder and centerboard. Any opinions on using Douglas Fir or Cypress. I have free cypress but... This will be my third boat but definitely the biggest project. My last was a Weekender but it didn't have enough room for the family and I didn't like the way it pounded. Would not push through a chop very well either unless you had lots of wind. I have admired Travis Votaw's Pilgrim the last couple of years at the Texas 200 so decided to build my own rather than coveting my brothers. ) I look forward to conversing with you guys along the way. David
  9. I'm starting a Princess 22 and ready to construct rudder and centerboard. Should I go with Douglas Fir or Cypress. I have cypress available at no cost. The fir I will have to purchase. Can anyone with expertise weigh in on this one? David
