Dinghy Cartop Loader and dolly

If you need to load a dinghy or small boat on the car top frequently, you might be interested in the dinghy cartop loader I built recently. It makes it easy for one person to load a dinghy on a cartop with control.

I also built a nifty dolly to make moving the boat around very easy. Everything was built with 2x4s and hardware etc from a home supply store.

Very clever.

One suggestion - putting outdoor carpet on the pieces will help things slide better and prevent scuffing of your paint.

The rig made me look like something from the Beverly Hillbillies going down the road, but it worked. :-)

For my launching dolly I used PVC pipe and actually made it more like a cart. I've found that small wheels quickly get bogged down in sand so also switched to bike wheels.
