Charles Newton Posted September 19, 2003 Posted September 19, 2003 Well folks, I finished the Keel and finished off my old belt sander in the process. The bushings are toast. I used a old 10' length of 1/4" PVC as a baten and it worked out great for the curved lines It was a little akward because of the roundness but I checked all the measurments again before I made the cuts. I used 1" 1/2 screws and plastic Resin glue to put it together. Going to get my wife a belt sander for her birthday coming up. ( If I did that I would end up sleeping in the Workshop....Hmmm.) Getting nervous about starting on the hull bottom. Marine ply isn't the cheapest stuff in the world. Drawing the lines is easy. Putting that saw on it takes some effort Quote
Steve Downs Posted September 19, 2003 Posted September 19, 2003 Congratulations Charles, you've started! That's great. I can start on mine as soon as my workshop is finished. I have half the trusses done. As soon as the roof is on I can get the siding on and I'll be ready for the winter. Then I can finish the inside at my leisure and get started working on the boat. It's going to be a long cold winter but I think I can get a good start. Keep making sawdust! I'm right behind you. Quote

If you make it slightly larger than your lines, then you can always sand down to your lines. I have a couple places where the boat is a little narrower than than plans, but it will work just fine! ken connors Posted September 20, 2003 Posted September 20, 2003 good job, Charles. fun, aint it? dont worry about cutting up that pricey marine ply. just cut a little proud of your lines and let your sureform do the rest later. if there are any small errors(and there will be), youll be amazed at the healing properties of thickened epoxy.
