keen2buildagain
G-Day all, Here's a couple of photos of my attempt to build an OB-20 in an open/side console style configuration. Up until now the build has been fairly standard with the framing, sheeting, fairing, sanding and painting. The turn over was a very enjoyable afternoon/evening event and marked an important step in the overall project, (as I'm sure we all have experienced). I posted a few shots of the event in Pete's roll over rig topic. I thought I would post a few more (photos) as an update, so far I am doing the glassing of the underfloor areas and being 6'9" and the wrong side of 50, it's not as easy to work below your foot level as it used to be! I am using 10oz D/B tape and off cuts I kept from the bottom glassing. Trev
keen2buildagain
Hi all, A quick up-date........only the centre pods to go and then the transom area. I got sick of the step ladder and swapped it for a set of stairs, so much easier! I think this is the hardest part of the build! A question regarding the gunnels, do you glass them and if so, what size cloth is used? Trev
GAP333
Thanks for posting the photos. I will be starting a build soon so keep them coming! Photos are a great help in the process. Your work looks to be excellent.
striperick
keen Your work looks very clean. The reflection of the hull is stunning . Not distorted. WOW
Hirilonde
The reflection of the hull is stunning . Not distorted. WOW Yeah, really, someone spent a few hours and a lot of attention sanding.
keen2buildagain
An old mate of mine who is a spray painter by trade advised me of one thing when prepping for painting, he said when you think you have done enough sanding/filling.... take a break and go back and do some more! I am happy with the finish on the hull and in no way is it perfect, but it's a boat I want to use it , not to be a trailer trophy. I am enjoying the build and will post a few photos along the way when I get a chance. Trev

keen2buildagain
Hi men, Just a quick update (although not much of one) on the front of the wooden tub. I did a mock up of the area I will use as storage and was thinking of doing two benches either side of the access door......your thoughts? smccormick
Nice work on your hull so far. While you might not like sanding, any imperfection that you knowingly ignore will be staring you right in the face for life. It's a terrible thing to walk by your work and be haunted. On your seat configuration, I say looks good if that's the way you'll use the boat. IT's the greatest part of a custom boat build. You do it your way. keen2buildagain
I was playing in the shed last night with the bow end of the tub and was thinking of doing two cut outs either side of the king plank for anchor rode etc. How could I expect to keep the curve of these locker hatches (across the top) after I cut these panels out....wouldn't they want to lay flat in these sections after I cut them out? Trev
smccormick
I've had the same thoughts about my anchor locker, but I plan to install one hatch in the center. My expectation at this point, is to install deck beams one fore and aft of the cutout and probably leave out the carlins, but install the fore/aft sections of the king plank. This gives me support and shape for the deck and the hatch, while providing full access to the locker.
Peter HK
Not sure about the thickness of the ply for that deck piece but laminating say 2 sheets of 4mm ply in place instead of a piece of 8mm should hold the curve. Cheers Peter HK
keen2buildagain
The ply is 10mm (3/8) and the lids would be approx. 300 x 300, I may opt for no lid at all........seems like too much trouble for such a tiny hatch? Anyway, thanks for the advise guys. Keen
keen2buildagain
Update on the pointy end, working my way back from here. The openings are to be trimmed with timber and then bright finished.
