Kudzu
What a long road but float bags are a go. Starting to get things together and one of the those things is settle on the sizes I need for different boats. Ravenswood is one of the most popular boats and I want a couple of you that have built one to take a couple of measurements for me. I can do this on the computer but I want to verify it with a real boat and I don't own one. So, if you would measure all the way AROUND the boat behind the cockpit coaming. Right at the frames. Second measure AROUND the boat at the frame at the end of the foot rests. Not at the coaming, but at the next frame. I am going to measure off the plans and see if these numbers match up. THANKS! vttramper
Here you go: 1. AROUND the boat behind the cockpit coaming: 54.5 in. 2. AROUND the boat at the frame at the end of the foot rests: 47.5 in. I'll be watching the Kudzu store for the float bags!
Kudzu
PERFECT! I had 55 and 48 inches. Considering I round everything up that is close enough. I also measured my Sling Shot since it was on the trailer and same result. Boat was slightly smaller than my chart. The bags could actually be a bit smaller but the larger size insure they will fit snugly once inflated. It locks them in place in the boat. I am waiting on UPS to deliver the heat sealer today. I have some new supplies to try coming in next week. I have been working up sizes of the bags trying to see which boats can use the same bag. Just picked up material to make patterns from. So this is finally coming together. One thing that has surprised me is the fabric costs. Using the vinyl coated polyester the $70 a set price looks very promising. Nylon fabric is nearly double the cost and would be in the $95 range for a set. I am waiting on the fabrics I order and I am going to make a set of each next week. But based on the small samples it looks like either one will work really well. If so I think I will sell the polyester as standard material and offer nylon as a custom order basis if someone wants it. Should have all this finalized in a couple of weeks. Maybe next week if all goes well.
GaryMinor
Jeff, I am ready to cover my Mess About 15. Can I add the float bags after covering or should I postpone the covering until the bags are available? Gary in Wake Forest
Kudzu
No problem, there are easy to slip in afterward.
