kaeptnr Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Hi all, where are useful places for tell-tales on a Cat-Ketch rig (BRS15) Thanks Ralf Quote
Peter HK Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Here is where the sailmaker put them on my sails. They seem pretty useful where they are. The ones on the leech are the hardest to keep flowing. The single wind indicator on the main mast also works well even off the breeze. Cheers Peter HK Quote
MisterMoon Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I have a Davis Windex mounted atop my main mast. I also have yarn telltales taped on both sides of the sail about 1.5 feet aft of the masts. I wish there were windows in the sail to make the ones on the leeward side easier to see. When the sun is behind you, they are invisible. Quote
Andy B Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Hello everyone, I'm reviving this old thread because it's a good question--where are the tell tales on a cat-ketch best placed? There's good information out there about where to locate them on a standard sloop (headsail and main sail), but does that translate the same to a cat-ketch? Quote
Paul356 Posted May 16 Posted May 16 I like the series of telltales up the leaches of the sails. If they're all flowing, upwind or on a reach, I feel the sails are well-trimmed. I put a windex on the main mast for longer trips. The mast swivels, so it's not necessarily reliable to use the arrow against the tabs for relative wind, but at least it gives some usable info on changes in direction. 2 Quote
Don Silsbe Posted May 22 Posted May 22 On my BRS 15 I had telltale windows added to the sail. I was used to trimming my sails with telltales located about 10” behind the mast. On my CS 17, the new sails came with telltales on the leeches. This is the conventional way, these days. If the ribbon is sucking behind the sail, ease off on the sheet. A windex at the masthead is a beautiful thing, when I’m inclined to crane my neck up to view it. (I do have one.) In light air, I clip a length of mag tape from an old cassette to the foot of the main or mizzen. It’s easier on the neck. Sorry, no photo. 1 Quote
