Hi, all,

If you can, check out the March/April issue of WoodenBoat at page 89, coming soon to a news stand or mailbox near you.  I'll try to get a picture up later.  Special thanks to Joe Anderson for the photo.  And, as we've said often, Graham designs a heckuva boat.  Proud to be one of his builders.

Here are the pictures.  I was able to get the CS 17 onto the WoodenBoat "Launchings" page.  They sent me a free copy of the magazine, plus a tearsheet, a WB hat that says "Launchings No 261" (which is the issue number) and a decal that says "A Proud Builder of Wooden Boats." Lots of fun to get all that in the mail.  I had sent in 4 or 5 high res photos and a little description.  Thanks again to all on this forum for advice offered, directly and indirectly (and again to Joe for the picture, taken at the Messabout).

There is a fair possibility that Sally was actually the one that took the beautiful photo of your boat.

Either way we are very happy for you.

I have never seriously considered doing that. Very cool.

Congratulations on the launch and the press!

Fighting the winter doldrums:  March is the worst month, for sure.  Aha!  I had an old pedestal compass from the big boat, and some scraps of teak, so a box compass seemed in order.  I removed the Danforth's covers (which had made it impossible to read standing up, anyway), made a hole, fiddled with some rabbets, made a box, and now I have a box compass.  Can't wait for real spring.

Very nice. Fitting it to the boat or a nice coffee table discussion starter?

Both, actually, I guess.  I can certainly set it out in the house when not afloat, but my plan is to take it along cruising on the 17, fit it in on the main thwart or along the keel somewhere.  Or probably move it around as I move around.

Sailing in Lake Michigan off Milwaukee yesterday in the 17.  For those who like to note such things:  7.5 mph on a broad reach, 6.0 wing on wing DDW (above), 5.1 on a close reach.  What a boat.  If only I could learn to take better pix one handed.

Here we are hove-to for a minute just before heading through the breakwater gap out onto the open lake.  I love the way the boat will just sit there with the mizzen tight and the tiller locked.  It's a great tool.  Walk about the boat and get things organized (well, sort of, in my case), do what needs to be done, then unlock the tiller, bring in the main, and we're off.  It also allows two hands for pictures.

I enjoy and appreciate all the sailing photos and videos.  But the bottom line is that the best ones are taken by someone else.  The hard part is finding the someone else.

I would like some day to get a gps and collect data on TWA / speed and try to draw a polar for my boat.  I can already tell that my previous intuition of what it would look like is really bad.  Those speeds are quite possible
