Tom Lathrop
Ed Boden, which some of you have probably met at the messabouts died last Saturday. Ed was 85 and alert to the end. We will really miss him, his limericks and his presence at our local roundtable argumentations about boats. Ed dropped out of his career at Jet Propulsion Laboratories in the space program and sailed a wooden 26' Giles Venture single handed around the world, taking quite a few years to complete it to his satisfaction. A few years ago, he shipped out for another round the world voyage on a huge cargo vessel, selected because it would be unable to get through the Panama Canal and would need to go around Cape Horn. As luck would have it, the Horn was placid when they rounded and he did not get to experience the big greybeards that it is notorious for. The photo shows Ed, Graham and me at a messabout a couple years ago.
