Randy C.
Well, it only took 4 years 4 months, but it's finally done. The first sail was pretty uneventful, winds 5-10. Sailed for @3 hours without any problems. Thanks to everyone for all the advice, all very helpful. Randy C.
cprinos
NIce! -- love the look of the laced sails on the wooden masts. Your building thread has been a great source of info for me.... great to see the final result. chris

Jim Stumpf
Very Nice. Good on you for sticking it out to completion. Jim
Randy C.
Thanks for all the kind words. The mizzen is 19'. Jim, it really became a struggle at times to keep going. I'm used to working on projects that take a weekend or two. I'm GLAD it's done. It really is a lot of fun to sail. When we were loading it on the trailer my 8 year old grandson asked me, "what are you doing next Sunday grandpa"?
makenmend
very very nice, really like the wood masts, what wood did you use and what is the weight, I only had fir available and my 1st mast came out at 32.5 lbs, not easily handled. MM I seem to recall with fir one can reduce birds mouth scantlings by 20% - 25% to save weight.
Randy C.
I made the masts out of Douglas fir using the bird's mouth method. The main weighs right at 20# and the mizzen is @18#. Randy
makenmend
Randy thanks for reply. I also used douglas fir and birdsmouth consruction, I did add blocking at the snotter attachment area and the lower 3' of the mast, still have a good amount of sanding to do and it's at 20' right now, wishful thinking I can approach 20 lb though this is before final glue up showing the blocking. Randy C.
I built masts as close to the plans as possible. A lot gets planed off to make them round. You might be surprised how much it will lighten up by the time you get done hand planing to make round. I also added blocking where the snotter goes, and also the bottom and top. makenmend
Well thats encouraging, spent all day yesterday planing, with more to come, almost down to 3 and 1/4 inchs. MM
