Looking for Info on Identifying Porthole / Window

Hi. Got a question for you folks here. In a recent auction I got what looks like either part of a porthole or a window from a boat. Its brass about 10 inches in diameter, good glass but instead of a door like portholes, it looks like it has threads to screw into something. Is this a part of a porthole or window from a ship? I can take a couple of pics if that would help. Any info would be appreciated.

You have a "light" not a port hole. A light is a fixed glass, in a frame, usually attached (possably screwed to) another frame. It's purpose is to permit light to enter the boat without leaks. A port is an opening light, usually has hinges and a dog or two to lock it closed. Post a picture, it could also be an inspection port, which is pretty much as the name suggests.
