mjshp Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 For the spindrift 10n on the keel/gunwales sheet, dated 2-22-04 GB says: "Tapering 1/8" keeps the gunwales looking heavy in the ends. Can someone clarify what this means? Thanks Quote
John Burritt Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Tapering the bottom side of the gunwales at each end gives a better visual appearance without impacting the integrity of the gunwale. Maintaining the same thickness for the full length makes the ends appear thicker or heavier. Quote
mjshp Posted February 19, 2012 Author Report Posted February 19, 2012 So not the over all thickness of the gunwale as measured from the hull outward, but the size measured vertically? Thanks. Quote
John Burritt Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 You could actually thin it a bit both ways. Don't know if the plans mention it, but you should bevel the bottom edge of the gunwale at about 15 deg. Looks less bulky, and it also keeps the gunwale from hooking as easily on the edge of a dock, or ???. Quote
mjshp Posted February 20, 2012 Author Report Posted February 20, 2012 Yes, that is mentioned. the plans specifiy 17 degrees. Thanks for the help. Quote
