Will be doing a Stone Fly built with some club members...it will be raffled off starting at our winter powwow in Feb. clear through to, and ending with our summer powwow in Aug.

I went ahead and got a jump on the build being things are slow arround here...I will probably be ordering 2 boats worth of fabric before long....

Here is a view of my strong back made from 3/8 ply with a 3/4 ply top..13' long it ended up an odd size because used scrap to build it ..It has to end extensions I can screw on when I need them making it 16' long.

My cutting jig is a little short so I clamp another pc. of 1/2'' to the side of it..

With the jig flush to one side of the center line means I can clamp on a pc of 1/4'' above the stringer being cut which intern should lay flat against the bow and stern pcs....

I extend the stringer past the jig in order to slice off enough to avoid much sanding..

So from what I have read the paint does bleed through the pollyester and should be thinned a little to make it even...I guess experimenting on a scrap pc. would be wise.

Most assuredly pratice on some scraps! Not sure if have one to show you what I am talking about, but you don'tnt to thin the first coat. You don't want it watery thin or anything like that. But it needs to be bit thinner or you get a very blotchy look on the inside. My internet service is down more than it is up today but I will see if I find some photos.

I noticed when stapling the fabric it would sometimes cause a run in the stitching, it looked like it was pushing the weave into the wood. It is like uneven in the tightness of the fabric..more of something you can feel than see...will ironing make all of this even out...

You need chisel point staples (so I read) and I have yet to find them in monel or stainless. That is supposed to push the fibers aside rather than grab them. I find that the paint help hide this but they still show some.

CRRECTION: I said Chisel points and that is what I think you have. Square ended staples. I meant the staples with a tapered end. Amazing what you think about at 2 in the morning.

She had the idea to do an Eagle with the head at one end and the tail at the other and some feathers down the side....So I showed her one of my Pipe Stone carvings and we used it as a model..
