Guest Gerry Norris
If I use marine grade plywood, can I get away with taping the seams and epoxy coating the entire hull? I mean no glass cloth other than the taped seams. I noticed that the website shows only 1/4" ply used, and on my previous two small boats I've had heavier plywood for bulkheads and transoms. Oh, yeah, I'm talking Spindrift 11N here. Gerry one of my previous boats cannon1324@mchsi.com
Guest Joe Nelson Oregon CS20 #3
Marine grade fir plywood will check without a covering of cloth. Good Okoume, etc. will be fine without cloth...unless the design specifically calls for it. Thats one of the big advantages of using the more expensive plywood. joe_nelson22@hotmail.com
Guest Graham Byrnes
Joe is right, there is no need to glass the hull on a Spindrift 11n if you use Okume ply. There is also no need for thicker ply for the transom and bulkheads, it will only make the boat heavier. The plan covers their appropriate reinforcing for the high stress areas.
