Guest dan
Has anyone used MDO plywood? It's used for outdoor signage and has a very smooth finish.

Guest Tom L
I have not heard of the material referred to in the reply on the main forum. MDO is plywood, not fiberboard which is called MDF and should be avoided where moisture will be in the same zip code. MDO is used for exterior signs and the plywood plys may be superior to usual exterior grade. I have used it in boatbuilding and know of others who used it with good results. It provides a superior painting surface that will not check like normal fir plywood. Weight is one negative to its use although it makes the use of fiberglass sheath on fir plywood superfluous and will be no heavier. Much of it is paper surfaced on one side only and you may have to search to get two sided from suppliers to the sign market. Local building suppliers often have it but probably only in 3/8" thickness and resin paper on only one side.
