Carolina flare sportfishing boat

Hello Everybody,

My name is Michael and I have a passion for Carolina flare sport fishing boats. One day I would like to build one in the 30' - 35' range. In fact, I have started an amateur design forum for this type of thing. The site is www.opensportfisher.org. I have put up some screenshots of the DelftShip drawings and I think they look pretty good. The DelftShip files are also available for anyone who wants to download them. My goal with this is to have a boat design that is freely available to anyone who wants to download it. The forum would be for people to ask questions and provide answers on the design, construction, and anything else to do with the boat. If you are interested, please visit and let me know what you think. I would think that if enough boat people get together we could make a boat that is light, strong, and safe. Once we get enough information, I want to start building. I will document the build and post pics on the forum.

I don't intend to steal traffic from this site, and I wouldn't consider this to be spam. If anyone takes offense to this, please let me know and I'll try to fix it.

Cheers,

Michael

That's great, Frank, and thanks for the welcome! Have you seen the forum? I'm interested in all opinions concerning the project. One day I would like to have a nice sign painted on the back of the boat. Something like "Tuna's Worst Nightmare!...by OpenSportfisher.org." It has a nice ring to it.

I just took a look at it ... its at http://www.opensportfisher.org/forum/ for the benefit of the rest of the folks (you can't post links until you have 3 posts to your credit, so I posted it for you!)

I'm not much of a fisherman ... all that overhead casting is bad for your sails, and monofilament is hard to get out of baggywrinkles ... but I know there are some fans of the boat style around here. Graham of B&B Yacht Designs has built quite a few custom boats in the style (he's "Designer" in the support forums for B&B here).

Well, Frank you just have to learn to side cast. Learning is so worth it though. Imagine a small propane grill hanging over the water with fresh caught fish sizzleing on it. The stars overhead...a light breeze at your back..your best girl with you. That is what boating is all about. Dream on Skovian and may your rods be bent with tonights dinner!
