hokeyhydro
I like the CS-20 but it would be a bit large for my available shop area, so a CS-15 or CS-17 is my build list. RE: the CS-15, how many sheets of ply at what thickness are required to build it? The B&B website states the ply list for the CS-17, but not the CS-15. Masts: I've browsed the forum and discovered a variety of mast length stated. Once again I now my shop & talent limitations for rolling up a birdsmouth spar, so just how long are masts for the CS-15 and CS-17?

DaveZ
Normally I would let one of the more knowledgeable people answer, but I just happen to have the plans for the CS 17 (#287, by the way) right next to me. Main mast 19' 6" Mizzen mast 18' 10 1/2" Enjoy, Dave
Diddle Dally
The Core Sound 15' requires 8ea. of 1/4" ply & 2ea. of 3/8"ply. I have been juggling the decision between the CS15 and the BRS15 for awhile now, I have put the CS15 on top of my list. And, just incase you want to know, the BRS15 requires "6"ea. of 1/4" & 2ea. of 3/8" sheets. Two different 15' boats, but the BRS15 requires 2 sheets less of 1/4". I haven't figured this out yet. Anyone? Although they are two different boats, and two different build methods Hope this helps!! Diddle Dally
Ray Frechette Jr
BRS has a smaller foredeck, no coaming and no side decks. that accounts for a fair amount of 6 mm ply.
hokeyhydro
ThankS All. If the CS-17 sports masts or 19'6" and 18'10.5" then I'm good to go on either boat. So the CS-15 uses one less sheet of 6mm and 9mm than the CS-17, a modest increase in material cost. Decisions . . . decisions . . .
Richard Whitney CS#70
Having built a CS 17 and currently building a Lapwing my only comment would be if you are going to be sailing most of the time single handed maybe go for the CS 15, if you will often have others with you (to launch and or sail with) go for the CS 17. hokeyhydro
Good advice, Richard. Over my many decades I have discovered that bigger is not always better. And as Graham Byrnes said to me, with a wicked grin, "The smaller the boat the bigger the adventure!"
