Shopbuilt Clamps

You are probaly looking at the ones we made in the boatbuilding class. They are made out of oak and we just figured out the shape from the depth that needed. We used thick leather for the hinge with two screws into each leg. For tightening we used a 1/4" bolt and cut out a big wooden wing nut. For the thread we drilled the oak oversize and poured in a epoxy bushing which was drilled and tapped when cured.

They are a lot of work for a one time use but they have long payed back their time over the hundreds of boats that we have built. We still use a lot of drywall screws for a quick clamp. You can use C clamps for long reach clamping by using a pair of legs with a spacer block at the top
