Guest Joe Wiseman
Am painting my Core Sound 17, and want to paint anti fouling on the bottom. How do I establish a proper water line? Thanks, Joe DoryJoe@aol.com
Guest Graham Byrnes
The position of lwl on the CS 17 measures vertically down 27 3/8" at the bow and 17 3/8" at side of the transom. I like to set up straightedges across the transom and bow, you can level each side of the transom and true the bow straightedge to the stern straightedge. The next step takes 2 people. Pull a string across the straightedges parallel to the CL, tie off the stern. Have your assistant while keeping the line tight, start moving the string at the bow, inboard along the straightedge until the line just kisses the hull. You will put on a small square of tape locking the string to the hull at that point. Keep repeating this procedure until you reach the bow. Tie off string at the bow and go to the stern and finish as you did at the bow. You can now take a pencil and mark along the string, I usually mark about every 3" which is close enough for taping. The reason why we tape the string is that it will slide down the hull if you don't. You may raise the WL 1" - 2" if you like to compensate for chop as water is nearly always in motion, although while sitting on a mooring the boat will be light and will float a couple inches higher than the LWL. Guest bill Heil
I have a cheap laser level and am going to try and use that to mark the waterline on my CS17. Bill schwmh@cconnect.net
