Gordy Hill
Graham is busy fixing all the little things necessary but he's very happy with the boat. They only had about 6 knots of wind but the boat moved very nicely......Then his cell phone battery went dead.
Designer
She floats. One day left before we leave for Florida but still lots of little things to do . Sailed in light winds today and she was very well balanced and responsive with good acceleration in the puffs.

Doug Cameron
The weather forcasts look good this far out. Saturday it's NNW 3-11 with gusts to 20, Sunday at checkpoint 1 it's NNW at 20 with gusts to 40. Everyone can check on the progress hour by hour at watertribe.com (and click on discussion). I'll see you guys at the beach on Friday! Go Team B&B!
Joe Nelson CS#35
Maybe Tom will have some time to answer questions. How did you guys handle attaching the tracks to the masts with the varied mast diameter? What did you do under the space that is left when the track goes from the larger diameter to the smaller? Did you get the spinnaker pole made and get to test the secret weapon?
Charlie Jones
I can answer the mast track question- Use a long "feather" under the track to gradually let the track change. Either fiberglass or a wood strip. Fiberglass would be best.
Joe Nelson CS#35
Charlie, How would you construct the "feathers" out of glass? Its going to take 4 total to do both masts. I will be converting from sleeve to tracks as soon as I get my new sails. Got any pics?
Gordy Hill
Since Tom indicated he would like to ride along with me Saturday morning to take pictures of the race, I would assume he's still "busy". At least for a while...
Charlie Jones
I used epoxied strips of wood. But you could lay up narrow strips of glass and stair step the ends- say every 2 inches- lay up about a foot long piece, let it cure, sand it smooth, then cut it apart on a band saw or with a saber saw and smooth the edges.. You could use a left over piece of tape for that, or just some scrap cloth.

Peter HK
Joe Here are some photos of the fibreglass track spacers I made- moulded them over the mast sections Peter HK
SteveJW
First, what a great forum you all have here. I've enjoyed ready so many of these informative and entertaining posts. Question: Why didn't you use the wood/carbon mast for the whole mast rather than just the top? Thanks, Steve
SteveJW
Scratch that last question I posed. Graham already answered that question at http://www.messing-about.com/forums/index.php?topic=5683.0 , "Mast Painting Again". It's amazing what one can find with a search!! : -Steve
Garry
Thanks for that reference. Interesting thoughts on using carbon fiber for mast construction.
