Guest Brent Sparks
I have a quote from a local supplier for 6061 tubing of 2" $11/ft 2.5" $11.75/ft 3" $13.75/ft This brings the materials cost for a set of CS20 masts to $603. How does that compare to your sources.
Guest joe Nelson
I checked into some online sources. Online metals http://www.onlinemetals.com/ sells and can ship 8' sections via UPS. We might want to get Graham's blessing on this for it varies from the BOM. 3" = $7.31' 2.5"= $5.21' 2"= $4.18' Total cost before shipping $267.20 Since its shippable UPS it should be under $30 for shipping. So about $300 for all the aluminum.
Guest Anonymous
Joe, That size and price looks good to me.
Guest jolly_roger_4570
I am a little concerned about the strength of the bottom half of the mast. Plan specs calll for a 12' section of 3". Going with all 8' sections could change the bending properties of the mast. I think that Graham said earlier that it would be OK but it would be nice to get a gut analysis before proceeding.
Guest graham
I'm just getting used to the new format and did not put my name on the my previous reply. Yes I think that 8' sections of 3" x .065" will work out fine. The 10' length was chosen for economy, 1 - 20' length cut in halves giving a lower section for each mast.
