That is exciting! It will be of great help to the Core Sound builders. Congratulations.

You mentioned that you wer going to "loft" the boat. Actually you will be "laying out" the panels. "Lofting" is a much "loftier" thing indeed.

Sounds like you are gearing up for a great party - too bad we are so far away, it would be a blast. A couple of tips which may be of help:

One of the things you can get into a bit of a jam with (from my experience with group-help building efforts) is the enthusiasm overriding the program. Everybody wants to DO something, NOW. However you do need to fold and tie in a specific order. First wire loosely along the CL, including up the stem (with panels stacked inside to inside). Then gently open it up book-fashion. At this point make everyone STOP HERE. The wings will be "flying" out to the sides. Under no circumstances should they try to pull the wings in at this point.

Now put in the temporary center frame and begin to tighten the centerline wires until the fit is right....this takes a little twitching, but it is very important as it sets the deadrise in the middle. Wire or screw the center temporary frame to the bottom.

Next....

Make sure the keel/centerline is tight all the way along. Put in the forward bulkhead...you may have to force and finesse it a bit. You can tie it to the bottom using u-shaped ties - going up through the bottom, through the bulkhead and down through the bottom. Do this on either side near the centerline and at the chine and sheer. The point being to draw the bulkhead down. If something doesn't want to fit, don't be afraid tocut your ties, trim a bit and re-tie.

Typically, you will need to put some double ties (two through the same hole) right at the back of the centerline, as it will want to splay out at the aft end.

When all of the above is done - and only then will you start to wire the sides. You will wire from front to back and equally on both sides (aha! this is where those troops are handy - doing two sides at once - no running from starboard to port!!!. Remember not to pull the aft ends in, you are folding them down and aft front to back - always letting the aft parts which you have not done yet "fly" or only be gently held in a little just aft of the tieing area to help the tie-people.

You may place the transom as you work along, again, as with the temporary and forward bulkheads, adjusting it in place on the bottom.

One or two tips: Cutting out the panels very smooth and true (fair) makes a big difference...especially the keel centerline. If it is inaccurate, you can have a bear of a time wiring. It's long easy convex curve and since you are cutting and smoothing in pairs, any error is doubled. The second thing, I like to leave the sides cut long at the front by about an 1". Then after you make up the butterfly you can stack and fair them together with the sides attached, so that you get a pretty profile from the forefoot up through to the sheer.

Enjoy the party and we expect to see some great pictures of the "gang".

Thanks you for the very detailed encouragement.

Fortunately, everyone who is attending the party has built boats before. So hopefully the enthusiasm level can be productive.

None of the party attendees have seen a Core Sound. But they are all aware of them and are anxious to see it transform from 2D to 3D form.

I could not be much further away from you and still be in the USA. But at least we have the internet to connect us all.

Thanks again,

Joe
