John Turpin
Hopefully, I'll be making the "big cut" in the next few days. It seems like the further I get on this project, the slower everything moves. We're getting there, but certainly not quickly. Steve Day
John, She's looking good. This is the hard part, because there is a great temptation to short cut to get her afloat. Stay the course! She'll be a fine boat. Steve

Frank Hagan
That has got to be nerve wrecking! Cutting a perfectly good boat hull in half ... Did you hold your breath while you cut?
John Turpin
Cutting the boat did not go well. I thought it would be easy--just run a hand saw between the two nesting bulkheads. Well, it just didn't work like that. The saw kept veering off and chewing into the plywood bulkheads. I've left myself quite a bit of repair work to do. Nothing was hurt structurally and should patch up nicely. I was going to cover those areas with tape and cloth anyway. I think the hard part was that I was sawing from the outside, "into" the inside. In hindsight, the better technique might be to be inside the boat sawing out. I just couldn't tell, from the outside of the hull, if I were going off course. Because the saw was wanting to walk off-line, I ended up drilling small reference holes--thru the hull--along the bulkheads so I could draw a cut line. Once I knew where the center line was, it was much easier. But, yes, it was very hard taking the saw to the middle of the boat. The good thing is, I can now practice my patching skills. Dale Niemann
Aw yes, we all learn from our mistakes. I have made enough for everyone. Your boat looks great. I just love the concept.
